Tooth Pain at Night: What Should You Do?

10 Jun 2026 · 5 min read

If you develop tooth pain, rinse your mouth gently with warm water and keep the area clean. Do not place aspirin or pain medication directly on your gums, as this can irritate or damage the tissue.

If there is swelling, a cold compress placed on the outside of your cheek for a short period may help reduce it.

You can take a pain reliever that is safe for you according to the instructions on the package or your dentist's advice. Avoid taking medication that is not suitable for your health or other medications.

Severe facial swelling, fever, persistent bleeding, or difficulty swallowing or breathing can be signs of a serious problem and require urgent medical attention.
